Jerzy Paweł Nowacki

Jerzy Paweł Nowacki (born November 24, 1947 in Gdańsk) - Polish mathematician, doctor of technical sciences, since 1994 rector of the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology

In 1965 he graduated from the Klement Gottwald High School in Warsaw and in 1970 from the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics at the University of Warsaw. In 1976, on the basis of his thesis entitled Dislocations and Disclinations in the Cosserat Center devoted to the theory of linear defects in an elastic continuum with oriented particles, he received a doctoral degree in technical sciences from the Institute of Fundamental Technological Problems of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In 2012, at the same institute, he received a postdoctoral degree in technical sciences on the basis of his monograph Static and dynamic coupled fields in bodies with piezoeffects or polarization gradient devoted to electro-elastic fields induced by dislocations and other sources in layered anisotropic piezoelectrics with layered structure. In addition to my main research interest, which is the mechanics of continuous media, I am also concerned with the problems of lifelong learning and Internet education; a model for a future university around which a community will be formed consisting of students, academic staff, graduates and their employers, constantly renewing their knowledge using the opportunities provided by the Internet.

From 1973 to 1993, he was a researcher at the IPPT of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In 1993, he initiated the establishment of the capital's Polish-Japanese Institute of Information Technology (now the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology) and later became the university's rector.

He is a member of, among others, the International Society for the Interaction of Mechanics and Mathematics, the Polish Society for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, the Polish Scientific Society for Internet Education and the Polish Society for Electromagnetism Applications, of which he was president from 1992 to 1997.

In 2016-2020, he was chairman of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Non-Public Universities and a member of the Presidium of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland.

He was awarded, among others, the Knight's (2001) and Commander's (2011) Crosses of the Order of Polonia Restituta, the Order of the Rising Sun, the Golden Rays with Ribbon (2008) and the Medal of the National Education Commission (2002).
